Your job as a biomedical and laboratory scientist for Médecins
Sans Frontières (MSF)
You will be responsible for establishing
and/or supervising a laboratory within an MSF project or mission.
Our HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria programmes are increasingly
complex, and place a strong emphasis on quality control. A major
part of your work will involve training and supervising local
staff.
Requirements for biomedical and laboratory scientists with
MSF
- A degree or diploma in laboratory science, or
in microbiology with applied medical parasitology and bacteriology.
Alternatively, if you have held a position as a medical laboratory
scientist, laboratory technologist or medical laboratory analyst,
you may qualify as a biomedical and laboratory scientist within
MSF
- A minimum of 2 years’ relevant
post-qualification work experience
- Experience in sample collection and analysis
(e.g. blood, stool, sputum)
- Knowledge of all basic laboratory techniques
and quality control systems
- Experience in training, coaching and
supervision
- Work or travel experience in developing
countries
- A good command of the English language
- Ability to cope with stress and to organize
and prioritize workload
- Ability to work in an international team
- Willingness to work in an unstable and
insecure environment
- Availability of at least 12 months
Assets
- Practical clinical laboratory experience; a
knowledge of the epidemiology of, and diagnostic methods for,
malaria, tuberculosis and sexually transmitted diseases including
HIV/AIDS; an interest in tropical diseases
- Experience in working with data analysis
software packages and in carrying out surveys and similar
fieldwork
- Experience with a similar non-governmental
organization abroad
- A good command of the French language
