NURSE PROFILE MSF

Your job as a nurse for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

You will carry out clinical work, primarily involving basic healthcare, but you may also be involved in programmes such as vaccination campaigns, feeding centres or prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Possible settings are rural health centres, mobile clinics, existing local healthcare programmes, refugee camps and urban settings. Your primary responsibility will be as a manager. Your main role will be to supervise, monitor, train and coach the team of locally hired nurses in your project. Data collection, analysis and reporting are an intrinsic part of the role. Furthermore, you will be responsible for forecasting medical supply needs and managing medical stocks.

  • A valid nursing licence (level 5 for nurses trained in the Netherlands, or its equivalent from another country)
  • Successful completion of a course in tropical healthcare
  • At least 2 years’ post-qualification nursing experience
  • Patient care experience within the past 2 years
  • Experience in training, coaching and supervision
  • Work or travel experience in developing countries
  • A good command of the English language
  • Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload
  • Ability to work in an international team
  • Willingness to work in an unstable and insecure environment
  • Availability of at least 12 months

Assets

  • Experience of basic healthcare, nutrition, infectious diseases, paediatrics, obstetrics and HIV/AIDS
  • Work experience in an emergency department
  • Work experience as a nurse in a developing country or in a similar non-governmental organization abroad
  • A good command of the French language
